SUMMARY:SYMPHONY FROM JERUSALEM OF THE NORTH
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 2021 is the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust which is being commemorated worldwide. To mark this painful anniversary, one of the most promising composers of the younger generation in Lithuania, Jievaras Jasinskis, and shofarist Tadas Daujotas are going to present a bespoke music project “Symphony from Jerusalem of the North”.\nThis contemporary symphony is unique and one of its kind. It will showcase classical music intertwined with Lithuanian and Hebrew folklore motifs. The hour-long musical journey will be performed by the Vilnius city St Christopher Chamber Orchestra, wooden wind quartet, trumpet, trombone, percussion, and Hebrew and Lithuanian folk instruments – birbynė, lumzdelis, kanklės, oud, Persian tar, saz, Cretan lyra, hurdy-gurdy and ancient Hebrew horns – shofars. The project also brings in Yaron Cherniak from Israel, multi-instrumentalist playing string instruments from the Middle East, Boris Kirzner, a violinist of Jewish descent from Lithuania, and other classical, jazz, and folk performers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConcept\nOnce, a large Jewish community lived in the capital of Lithuania, so Vilnius earned the name Jerusalem of the North. The idea of “Symphony from Jerusalem of the North” is to show how close the history of Lithuanians and Jews is intertwined, so we invite everyone to join us on a musical journey, during which we will witness the most important moments of Israel and Lithuania’s history. The Goal of the project\nIn implementing the Holocaust’s 80th anniversary music project, we seek to honour the memory of Jews living in Lithuania, express solidarity to the Jewish community, and use artistic means of expression to fight against modern forms of anti-Semitism.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarch of Life\nThe 23rd of Septmeber is a National Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews. So on that day from 11am to 2pm the March of Life event will take place through Vilnius ghetto all the way to the railway station and then to Ponary by train where the massacre took place. The initiator of March of Life, Jobst Bittner, and his team from Germany will be part of this event.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe importance of the project\nThe premiere of “Symphony from Jerusalem of the North” is scheduled for 23 September – National Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews. Concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust would take place in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace, close to the Vilnius Ghetto. Invitations to the event will be sent to heads of state, foreign ambassadors, members of the Jewish community of Lithuania, the Righteous Among the Nations and their descendants, and other guests of honour. The concert will be broadcasted on national television.Concerts:\n\n2021-09-23 – Courtyard of the Presidential palace of the Republic of Lithuania (Vilnius) – Concert dedicated to the Lithuanian Jewish Genocide Day with broadcast via Lithuanian National TV\n2021-09-28 – Utena Cultural Center\n2021-10-03 – Biržai Cultural Center\n2021-10-08 – Kaunas Cultural Center – Concert at the CityTelling Festival dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Action in Kaunas Ghetto (organizers Prabudimo orkestras and Kaunas Jewish Community, partners “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022”)\n\nFunding\nThe projects were partially funded by LATGA foundations, the Lithuanian Culture Council, AGATA Music Publishing Foundation, the Embassy of Israel in Lithuania, other organisations and private sponsors. The total budget is 62.323 Euros, of which 32,49 % is already raised.\nInvitation\nWe invite you to be part of this work of God in Lithuania. If you are available, please come and join us on March of Life events on the 23rd of September. Also we invite you to be a financial partner of a concert in the Courtyard of the Presidential palace of the Republic of Lithuania and “Symphony from Jerusalem of the North” album recordings. We believe that God through generosity of believers can do miracles and we invite you to be part of that miracle.\n\n
