St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra announces a series of virtual concerts – “Thursdays with Christopher.”
While quarantine and snow have stopped the movement and communication of many of us, St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra and conductor Modestas Barkauskas invites his fans to meet at the usual time – on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Only not At St. Catherine’s Church, but at the computer screens and remotely enjoy the orchestra’s latest recordings.
“In summer, the orchestra has worked actively and recorded many interesting concert programs, which now, while being unable to meet in person, we’d like to share with all of our existing and future listeners. During the “Thursday with Christopher” concerts, you will hear orchestral works by F, Schubert, W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, other classics, premieres of Lithuanian and foreign composers, as well as quartet and quintet programs prepared by orchestra artists. The palette of concert programs is really very diverse, so we hope that everyone will discover the music they like and will be able to listen to it without leaving home,” presents the director of the orchestra Nerijus Masevičius.
The first virtual concert is already this Thursday, January 28, at 7 p.m. St. On the Facebook and YouTube accounts of the Christopher Chamber Orchestra. In it, we will hear F. Schubert’s famous quartet no. 14 in D minor “Death and the Maden” (G. Mahler’s orchestration for the string orchestra). It is one of the most famous works of F. Schubert, often called the composer’s musical will. Thanks to G. Mahler’s genius orchestration, the string orchestra sounds massive, dense, and at the climax of the work as if it is rich as a vast orchestra.
In other concerts of “Thursdays with Christopher,” we will hear orchestral programs together with pianist P. Geniušas, vibraphone player M. Aita, cellist K. Reiko Cooper, singer V. Povilioniene, Lithuanian composers M. Bialobžeskis, R. Mačiliūnaitė, V. Germanavičius, Japanese composers Sh. Sahara and M. Aita orchestral premieres, the most famous classical works for chamber orchestra.
We invite you to meet with St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra every Thursday at 7 p.m. on Facebook or Youtube, where you will have virtual concerts “Thursdays with Christopher”!
