The Kraków-Nowa Huta Cultural Center invites you to the third edition of Musical Meetings on the Krzesławickie Hills this year – a concert by the Chamber Orchestra of St. Christopher from Vilnius. The event will take place on August 15 at 17:00 in the Church of the Divine Mercy and is the fruit of many years of cooperation between Krakow and the capital of Lithuania.

The Chamber Orchestra of St.Christopher of the Capital City of Vilnius was founded in 1994 on the initiative of prof. Donatas Katkus. The artistic director and conductor wanted to realize the idea of establishing a baroque orchestra. There was little experience in performing this music in Lithuania at that time – it was based on the principles of the Russian Romantic school. In 1995, the team received the call of St. Christopher, the patron saint of Vilnius, and travelers. Currently, the artistic director and chief conductor is Modestas Barkauskas, and the honorary conductor is Donatas Katkus. The team is known for its versatility, professionalism, and artistic imagination. The orchestra is a welcome guest in prestigious concert halls in Lithuania and abroad, such as Parisian Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Reykjavik Harpa, Berwaldhallen in Stockholm, UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Royal Palace in Warsaw, Basilica of St. Glinka in St. Petersburg, Conservatory named after Tchaikovsky in Moscow.

Concert programme:

Arvo Pärt – “Trisagion”

Vidmantas Bartulis – “Psalms”

Pēteris Vasks – “Viatore”

Valentyn Silvestrov – “Still music”

Since 1991, excellent performers from Vilnius have been hosted in Krakow as part of the cultural exchange. Thanks to the support of the City of Krakow, the Orchestra of St. Chrystopher will perform this year not only in the center of Krakow (the concert will take place on August 14 as part of the Cracovia Sacra Night), but also in Nowa Huta.
