On March 19 at 7:00 PM, St. Catherine’s Church in Vilnius will host a special concert dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the birth of the legendary cellist and teacher Mstislav Rostropovich. This evening will serve as a musical introduction — a prelude — to the Maestro’s 100th anniversary, which will be celebrated worldwide next year.

The concert is both a tribute to the Maestro’s memory and a meaningful look toward the future: young performers, accompanied by the orchestra, will take their first steps onto the major stage, symbolically passing on the living tradition of music into the coming century. Under the leadership of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Modestas Barkauskas, the orchestra consistently nurtures the development of young talents by giving them the opportunity to perform on the grand stage and make music alongside professional musicians.

The concert will feature young talents supported by the M. Rostropovich Charity and Support Foundation “Help for Lithuanian Children.”
