Concert Honoring Anatolijus Šenderovas’s 80th Anniversary
October 16, 19:00
Vilnius Choral Synagogue (Pylimo St. 39, Vilnius)
This year marks the 80th anniversary of distinguished Litvak composer and national award laureate Anatolijus Šenderovas. To celebrate, the Vilnius Shalom Festival presents a special concert at the Vilnius Choral Synagogue featuring performances by tenor Rafailas Karpis, violinist Dalia Dedinskaitė, and the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra of Vilnius City Municipality under the direction of Modestas Barkauskas.
Rafailas Karpis began his musical career in the boys’ choir “Ąžuoliukas.” He earned his master’s degree in vocal performance at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in 2007 under Prof. Virgilijus Noreika. An award-winning soloist in Lithuania and abroad, he received the Golden Stage Cross in 2020 and the Order “For Merits to Lithuania” in 2024. Since 2003, he has been a soloist at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. His repertoire focuses on works by Jewish composers and Yiddish songs, often performed with pianist Darius Mažintas; together they released the CD A Letter from the Past and curated a program of songs composed in the Vilnius Ghetto. In 2024, he presented a Jewish music program with the State Choir “Vilnius.”
At the Vilnius Shalom Festival, Rafailas Karpis will appear in two concerts:
September 23 with the State Choir “Vilnius” for Holocaust Remembrance Day
October 16 with the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra in the Vilnius Choral Synagogue
