The day that changed history
230 years ago, on May 3, history changed – the first written Constitution in Europe and the second in the world was adopted in Lithuania and Poland, laying the foundations for the formation of civil societies. Vilnius City Municipality St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, commemorating this historical date, invites you to a virtual concert from the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania proclaimed 2021 as the year of the May 3 Constitution to remind of its historical significance. Among the personalities who initiated the Constitution on May 3 was the last King of the Republic of the Two Nations, Stanislaw August Poniatowski, educator and publicist Hugo Kolontajus, and other nobles. The Constitution was also supported by Motiejus Biržiška, the ancestor of Mykolas Biržiška, the signatory of the February 16 Act of Independence. This document declared respect for human rights.
On this occasion, St. The Christopher Chamber Orchestra has prepared a program of Lithuanian and Polish composers, which will include works by Mieczysław Karlowicz, Faustas Latėnas, Romuald Twardowski, Vidmantas Bartulis, Wojciech Kilar. R. Twardowski’s work “Lituania” will be performed in Lithuania for the first time.
