March 11 is the day of the restoration of Lithuania’s independence. The Act on the Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence was signed by the Supreme Council – the Seimas of Restoration.

On this occasion, Vilnius City Municipality St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra together with violinist prof. Rūta Lipinaityte St. Catherine’s Church has prepared an exclusive concert program for the public and guests of Vilnius, which will feature works for violin and orchestra by contemporary Baltic composers.

In the concert, the orchestra and the soloist will perform music by composers from three Baltic countries – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Lithuania will be represented by works by Arūnas Navakas and Justė Janulytė, Latvia will be represented by a composition by Pēteris Vasks, and Estonia will be represented by music by world-renowned composers Arvo Pärt and Erkki-Sven Tüür.

Although Rūta Lipinaitytė’s repertoire is diverse, the violinist’s favorite and most often performed music is from the 20th century. The violinist is a particularly active promoter of contemporary music by Lithuanian composers, and works by Lithuanian composers have repeatedly been performed in both Lithuanian and foreign concert halls. St. Contemporary music is also unfamiliar to the Christopher Chamber Orchestra – having earned the reputation of a revivalist of the “Baroque Orchestra” and rare scores, the orchestra is, according to musicologists, “a great base for all the ideas of Lithuanian composers.”

The concert is part of the Vilnius 700 program. https://www.700vilnius.lt/
